RAF Wg Cdr No.5 Mess Uniform
An RAF mess uniform ranked to a Wing Commander. Consists of jacket, trousers and waistcoat. Has Wg Cdr rank lace, mounted Queens crown buttons, Navigator half-brevet and link (RAN and KC RAF buttons). Waistcoat is full backed with rear waist adjuster, mounted QC buttons and has been modified at back to allow for larger waist. Trousers are not high backed, have button fly, hook/eye waist fastening and belt loops. Shirt/tie not included but usually available as an option.

Date:     Jacket undated. Trousers 1969

Sizes:    Jacket approx 38/40" chest. Trousers approx 40" waist. Actual measurements are:

Chest Width (laid flat):             20.5"

Shoulder:                                 16.5"

Jacket Waist (width, laid flat):  19" (when buttoned)

Length:                                     19.5"

Sleeve:                                     23"  (short)

Waistcoat waist:                      20" (buttoned)

Trouser waist:                         40" (+2" to let out)

Inside Leg:                              26.5" (+1.5" to down)

Unsually shaped. Would fit small chested/large waisted/short legged person. The uniform came to us like this from the original owner, but really the trousers are out of proportion to the jacket/waistcoat - the max waistcoat waist size would be around 36/37".

Condition:     Wearable for fancy dress/civilian events, not upto RAF mess standard. No specific problems but is generally a little "tired". Jacket has a small area of wear below the bottom left button (see photo), 2mm hole in one armpit and some light marks on lapels. Waistcoat is in good condition - signs of wear but clean and damage free.Trousers have a 3mm worn patch on front waistband, a couple of 2mm moth holes on right leg near hem.
